In February 2023, the City Council approved the appointment of two new members to the Citizen Review Subcommittee (CRS). On March 11, 2023, staff from the Equity and Engagement, Legal, and Police Departments held an all-day training session for new and existing members of the CRS. CRS members learned about limits of authority, use of force, and the Police Department’s body worn camera policies and procedures, among other topics. Additionally, CRS members participated in the Scenario Based Use of Force Simulator Training and will participate in a police ride along with on-duty officers. The CRS is responsible for promoting public confidence in the professionalism and accountability of the Champaign Police Department through unbiased review of the investigation of citizen complaints.
