Shooting Investigation – 2000 Block of Cynthia Drive

Champaign Police were dispatched at 8:50 p.m. on February 12, 2023, to the 2000 Block of Cynthia Drive to assist medical providers already on scene. Upon arrival, officers located a 27-year-old Champaign man and were interviewing him regarding a battery incident when they saw that he was bleeding. Following an inspection, the man was found to have a potentially life-threatening gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim was immediately transported to an area hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

The initial investigation indicates that the victim was outside his residence when he was battered and shot by an unknown subject. Officers processed the scene for physical evidence and continue to canvass the surrounding area for witnesses and video footage that may be of investigative assistance. Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation is ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
