Champaign Police Seek Community Assistance in Investigating Bank Robbery

On Dec. 19, 2022, at approximately 9:11 a.m., Champaign Police Officers responded to the First Financial Bank located at 1205 S. Neil Street for reports of a bank robbery. Upon arrival, officers learned a suspect entered the bank, displayed a note indicating the presence of a handgun, and demanded money. The suspect fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of currency. No injuries have been reported to Champaign Police, and there is currently no evidence a gun was displayed or discharged during the commission of the robbery.

The Champaign Police Department is currently interviewing witnesses and reviewing video footage from the bank and immediate area for more information. Officers continue to canvass the surrounding area for witnesses and video footage that may be of investigative assistance. Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department.
