Justice Victim Advocates from the Equity and Engagement Department canvassed Champaign Park Apartments on October 13, 2022, to notify residents of the October 19 Community Violence Response Meeting in response to recent shootings in the area. The meeting was held at the Leonhard Recreation Center. Attendees learned about Community Gun Violence Reduction Blueprint resources to provide support to impacted residents and implement solutions to ongoing community violence. City staff responds to gun-related events to engage with Champaign residents and link families to resources in an effort to reduce further acts of violence. Also in attendance were the City’s Neighborhood Ambassadors (Neighborhood Services Department), Champaign Police, and representatives from Trauma and Resilience Initiative (TRI).
