On July 22, 2022, at approximately 10:43 p.m., Champaign Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Kenwood Road for a report of a shooting with injury. Upon arrival, officers found a 22-year-old male Urbana resident with non-life-threatening injuries to his legs. They immediately rendered medical aid until an ambulance could arrive. He was transported to an area hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was walking northbound near a building on Kenwood Road when an unknown male subject walked past him, turned around, and fired multiple shots from a weapon, striking the victim from behind. The subject then fled the scene.
Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
