National Community Development Week celebrates the accomplishments of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. CDBG is a federal entitlement grant whose goal is to build stronger and more resilient communities. CDBG funds in the City of Champaign support housing rehabilitation programs, emergency rental assistance, homelessness, youth programming, re-entry services, affordable housing development, economic development for small businesses, and public infrastructure projects. In 2020/21 the City’s CDBG accomplishments include grants to 55 small businesses, emergency rental assistance to 170 families, food for 389 food insecure households, and administrative support for a year-round homeless shelter. In total, 1368 individuals received assistance through the City’s public service programs.
