The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire in a single-family home at 305 Flora Dr. where one firefighter was severely injured while battling the fire. The firefighter remains in severe but stable condition at a local hospital.
During fire suppression activities, the injured firefighter’s self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) mask became dislodged from the firefighter’s face. The firefighter breathed in hot, smoke-filled air but was able to escape from the building. Fire and EMS crews quickly began providing medical care.
The firefighter has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and remains in severe but stable condition.
