Residential Fire – 305 Flora Dr.

The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire in a single-family home at 305 Flora Dr., Wednesday, January 26, at 2:22 p.m. One firefighter was severely injured while battling the fire.

Firefighters initially responded to a report from a neighbor of a fire in this one-story residence. Once on the scene, fire crews reported heavy smoke coming from the home. Firefighters deployed multiple hose lines and entered the building. While fighting the fire, a firefighter emergency was declared, and one firefighter was taken from the building. The incident commander struck a second alarm and additional crews responded to the scene. The injured firefighter was provided medical assistance on the scene by fire and EMS crews and transported to the hospital. Additional fire crews extinguished the fire.

The cause of this fire is undetermined as investigators remain on the scene conducting their investigation. The occupant was not home at the time of the fire. One canine died in the fire. The occupant of the building will be displaced as a result of the damage.
