Staff from the Planning and Development Department participated in the annual conference of the Illinois Chapter of the American Planning Association October 6-8 in Normal. The conference is an opportunity to share practices with other communities and to showcase work being done in Champaign.
Zoning Administrator Ben LeRoy organized and presented a panel discussion entitled “Safer Walking and Biking through Alternatives to Enforcement” where he was joined by representatives of the League of American Bicyclists.
Assistant Planning and Development Director Rob Kowalski, and Planning and Development Intern Roya Nassirpour presented “Code Recipes for Better Building Design” highlighting recent zoning changes to the In-Town and Campus zoning district standards that have resulted in positive building design changes in those areas.
The Illinois Chapter of the American Planning Association is one of the larger chapters in the country with nearly 1,400 members.
