Shooting Investigation – 200 Block of West Clark Street

On August 28, 2021, at approximately 1:43 a.m., Champaign Police responded to the 200 block of West Clark Street for the report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers encountered a large, disruptive gathering and discovered evidence of gunfire. Soon thereafter, officers learned a 20-year-old male arrived at a local hospital by personal transport with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg.

The preliminary investigation indicates a group of individuals were gathered in a parking lot area when a physical altercation occurred. As the parties separated, at least one individual produced a handgun and fired several times, with gunfire returned by at least one other individual. In addition to the gunshot victim, three vehicles were damaged and approximately 20 shell casings have been recovered so far.

Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to notify the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance. No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
