On May 4, 2021, Neighborhood Services partnered with Champaign County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC) and Habitat for Humanity to host a virtual forum for area landlords. Presenters were CCRPC’s Community Services Director Lisa Benson, And Habitat for Humanity’s Family Services Manager Jim Mueller. Sixty-two landlords joined the meeting to learn about new rental assistance funds available through the Illinois Housing Development Authority.
CCRPC administers funds through its Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERA), which historically had a tenant-led application process. However, from May 5 – May 21, 2021, CCRPC will take landlord referrals to start the application process. The ERA program also has funds for past due utilities. Habitat for Humanity staff have just completed training with IHDA on May 5th, and will soon launch their rental assistance program which will utilize a landlord-led application process. Neighborhood Services is committed to offering ongoing support to our partner agencies to ensure our rental property owners receive current and accurate information on resources available to assist our neighbors living in rental housing during these tough times.
