Fire Investigation – 914 W. Beardsley Ave.

The Champaign Fire Department responded to a home on fire at 914 W. Beardsley Ave., Thursday, April 29 at 9:06 a.m. Investigators have concluded their investigation into this fire and have determined it to be accidental.

Through scene examination and interviews, investigators from the Champaign Fire Department and the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal were able to determine the fire started in the kitchen in the rear of the home near the stove.

Firefighters reported finding the two female adults and two female children on the second floor. The Fire Department will have no further updates on the medical conditions of the occupants.

One smoke alarm was found upstairs on the wall in the hallway outside the bedrooms. Fire investigators were unable to determine if the smoke alarm sounded at the time of the fire. The Champaign Fire Department reminds all residents to maintain working smoke alarms in every bedroom and outside each sleeping area. Install smoke alarms on every level of the home and in the basement. Smoke alarms can provide early notification when seconds count.
