Shooting Investigation – 1900 block of Southwood Drive

On February 13, 2021, at approximately 6:21 a.m., Champaign Police responded to the 1900 block of Southwood Drive after receiving a 911 call indicating there was a female at a residence needing help. Upon arrival, officers located a 28-year-old female with a single gunshot wound to the leg. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The victim’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The preliminary investigation suggests a domestic disturbance occurred and the victim was shot in the leg by her ex-boyfriend.

Police have arrested Lamont Jackson, a 47-year-old male from Urbana, for his reported involvement in this incident. Jackson was taken into custody at the residence without incident and is being held at the Champaign County Correctional Center on preliminary charges of Home Invasion, Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Aggravated Domestic Battery, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.  A firearm, magazine, and ammunition were recovered on scene by officers.
