Shooting Investigation – 50 Block of E Springfield Avenue

On Dec. 6, 2020, at approximately 3:36 a.m., Champaign Police responded to the 50 block of East Springfield Avenue for reports of shots heard. Upon arrival, officers discovered evidence of a shooting and were informed a 38-year-old male victim arrived at a local hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his right arm and right side.

The preliminary investigation indicates there was a large gathering outside of private residence. During the gathering, an altercation broke out which led to the shooting. Police are currently processing the crime scene and interviewing possible witnesses. Approximately 60 spent shell casings were recovered from the scene, and additional property damage was identified to nearby residences and vehicles.

Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to contact the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance. The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
