On Oct. 26, 2020, at approximately 12:55 a.m., Champaign Police responded to a local hospital after being notified a 17-year-old male had arrived by personal transport with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his left arm.
The preliminary investigation indicates the shooting occurred in the 1000 block of Holiday Drive inside of a vehicle. Police learned a group of minors arranged for a drug transaction to occur when the suspect entered the vehicle, brandished a firearm, and proceeded to rob them. A struggle for the firearm ensued and one round was fired, striking the victim.
The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
