Champaign Fire Department Encourages Our Community to Observe a Moment of Silence in Honor of Those Lost on 9/11

The Champaign Fire Department asks the public to observe a moment of silence and reflection at 8:46 a.m on Friday, September 11. This marks the time Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center on a day that claimed the lives of thousands of Americans.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year the Champaign Fire and Police Departments will hold a small commemoration in lieu of their annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony. Additionally, flags across all City facilities will be flown at half-mast.

While the ongoing pandemic precludes a larger memorial ceremony to honor those lost, the City of Champaign asks our community to stop for a moment of silent reflection and honor our commitment to never forget those lost during this national tragedy.
