Homicide Investigation – 400 Block of East Hill Street

On August 20, 2020, at approximately 1:51 a.m., Champaign Police responded to the 400 block of East Hill Street for the initial report of shots heard. Upon arrival, officers discovered three shooting victims outside of a private residence. A 20-year-old male suffered a gunshot graze wound to his back and a 42-year-old female was shot twice, once in the left leg and once in the lower back. They were transported to a local hospital and their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The third victim, a 34-year-old female, suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound and was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries a short time later.

The preliminary investigation reveals the victims were outside of a private residence standing near a parked car when they were shot by unknown assailant(s) from an open area across the street.

Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to contact the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance.

The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
