Mayor Feinen Invited to Participate in Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative

The City of Champaign is proud to announce that Champaign Mayor Deborah Frank Feinen will participate in the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative, a world-class executive training program designed to strengthen the leadership skills of mayors from across the country.  Mayor Feinen is one of only 40 mayors selected to participate in the program which is designed to better equip participants with enhanced leadership and management tools to tackle complex challenges in their cities and to explore new ways to improve the quality of life for their residents.

“I’m excited and honored to be invited to participate in the fourth cohort of the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative,” said Mayor Deborah Frank Feinen. “This is a wonderful opportunity to exchange ideas with other mayors and business leaders on best practices that we can use in Champaign to address the social equity and economic challenges that cities across the country are similarly facing.  I look forward to working with my fellow mayors and the instructors to develop and share new ideas that we can use to improve lives for Champaign’s residents during this unprecedented and challenging time.”

The Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative consists of a series of immersive, online classes taught by faculty from Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard Business School, and experts from across the Bloomberg Philanthropies network.  The 2020-21 curriculum will focus on a wide range of topics, including recovery from COVID-19 and responding to emerging challenges with an emphasis on equity.  Mayors will also receive support for their city administrative leaders, including training on using data to confront the economic realities of the COVID-19 pandemic, workshops on public communication, and peer-to-peer learning opportunities.
