Shooting Investigation – Area of Eureka Street and Walnut Street

On July 1, 2020, at approximately 7:31 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the area of Fourth Street and Bradley Avenue for a reported shooting. Soon thereafter, police were alerted a 17-year-old male arrived at a local hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to an upper extremity. A scene consistent with a shooting was then identified at the intersection of Eureka Street and Walnut Street.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was in a vehicle traveling in the area of Beardsley Park when he was fired upon and struck by gunfire from occupants in a small red SUV. The victim then proceeded to drive to the area of Fourth Street and Bradley Avenue where additional shots were fired by the suspect(s) before they fled the area.

Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to contact the police department.  It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance.

The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time. Future updates may be provided as they become available. This is not believed to be a random act of violence.
