Shooting Investigation – 2100 Block of West White Street

On June 23, 2020, at approximately 3:38 p.m., Champaign Police responded to an apartment complex parking lot in the 2100 block of West White Street for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a 16-year-old male who had sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his lower body. Officers provided medical attention and the victim was ultimately transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.

At approximately 4:31 p.m., Officers were alerted that a second victim, a 16-year-old male, arrived at a local hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his lower body.

The preliminary investigation indicates the two victims were inside a parked vehicle when they were struck by gunfire. The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation; however, this is not believed to be a random act of violence. No additional injuries have been reported to police.

Any resident or business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is encouraged to contact the police department.  It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance.

The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
