On Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at approximately 10:35 a.m., Champaign Police were dispatched to the 2700 block of West Springfield Avenue for a report of an unresponsive body partially submerged in Kaufman Lake. Upon arrival, the body of a male was located approximately 15 feet from shore. Champaign Fire arrived and assisted police in the recovery and the individual was confirmed by emergency personnel to be deceased.
The circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation and an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death. The victim’s name is being withheld pending coroner identification and notification of next of kin.
