This evening, at approximately 8:22 PM, multiple law enforcement agencies responded to Marketplace Mall located at 2000 N. Neil Street for reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered evidence of gunfire in the parking lot on the west side of the business near the food court. The preliminary investigation has revealed no injuries; and no information currently suggest any gunshots were fired inside of the mall. As a precautionary measure, officers conducted a search of several stores inside the mall to ensure no injuries had occurred. However, police have identified several parked vehicles that sustained damage as a result of this incident.
Officers, Detectives, and Crime Scene personnel from the Champaign Police Department are currently interviewing witnesses and processing the scene and immediate area. There is currently no available suspect information and no arrests have been made at this time.
The Champaign Police Department asks that anyone with information about this incident to contact the police. Furthermore, any business in the nearby area with exterior surveillance camera systems is asked to contact the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance.
