UPDATE: Arrest Made in Gas Station Armed Robbery Investigation

Derrick Cox Armed Robbery Suspect Today, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Champaign Police arrested Derrick Cox, 48, of Champaign, for his involvement in a recent armed robbery to the Circle K gas station located in the 1500 block of North Neil Street. Cox was arrested at the intersection of Hedge Road and Bradley Avenue following a brief foot pursuit. A pellet gun was seized during the arrest.

The armed robbery to the Circle K occurred Nov. 26, 2019, at approximately 3:05 a.m. The investigation revealed the suspect entered the store and looked at various merchandise before making a small purchase. He then brandished a black pistol and told the clerk to give him the money from the register.  After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, he fled on foot.

Cox was arrested for the offense of Armed Robbery and Resisting Arrest. Cox also had two outstanding arrest warrants from Champaign and McLean County. Cox was transported to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office where he is awaiting future court proceedings.
