Investigation into Friday Morning Shooting Leads to Arrest

Shooting Suspect, Alonzo Jarrell

Today, at approximately 10:21a.m., Champaign Police learned a 26-year-old male victim arrived at OSF Hospital in Urbana with a gunshot wound to an extremity following a reported shooting in the 2100 block of W. White Street. Police would later find evidence – including multiple shell casings – confirming the shooting. The injury to the victim was not life-threatening.

The preliminary investigation revealed this was not a random act of violence.

As the investigation progressed, police identified 53-year-old Alonzo Jarrell (pictured) as the shooting suspect. Jarrell was arrested without incident by Champaign Police at approximately 2:10 p.m. near the 2000 block of N. Neil Street. He was transported to the Champaign County Correctional Center where he is awaiting future court proceedings.
