Police Investigating Overnight Shooting

This morning, at approximately 2:25 a.m., Champaign Police responded to the 500 block of E Vine Street following reports of shots fired. Upon arriving to the scene, officers located evidence corroborating the report of a shooting. Shortly thereafter, police were notified a 22-year-old male arrived at a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries consistent with a gunshot wound.

The preliminary investigation indicates two males were sitting inside a van when the suspect approached the vehicle, shot, and then fled. The second male inside the vehicle was not physically injured. While the investigation remains in its early stages, this is not believed to be a random act of violence.

There is currently no available suspect information and no arrests have been made at this time. Future updates may be provided as they become available.

Champaign Police reminds citizens that information submitted to Crime Stoppers is completely anonymous. Crime Stoppers will pay a reward of $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for this crime.
