Police Seek Assistance in Overnight Homicide Investigation

This morning, at approximately 1:49 a.m., Champaign Police responded to an apartment complex parking lot in the 400 block of Edgebrook Dr. following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a 21-year-old male victim who had sustained life-threatening injuries. Champaign Police officers immediately rendered aid to the victim who was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary investigation indicates a verbal altercation occurred immediately prior to the shooting and there is reason to believe several individuals were present when the incident occurred. At this time, it is unknown if this is related to the shooting which occurred one night prior in the 2500 block of W. Springfield Ave.

If any resident in the nearby area has exterior home surveillance camera systems, please contact the police department. It is believed video footage may be of investigative assistance.

There is currently no available suspect information and no arrests have been made at this time. Future updates may be provided as they become available.
