Champaign Police Investigating Sunday Night Shooting

On Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019, at approximately 11:26 p.m., Champaign Police responded to the North West area of Champaign following several reports of shots fired. Soon thereafter, police were notified an 18-year-old male arrived at a local hospital suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Upon arrival at the hospital, police discovered a vehicle with damage consistent with being struck by bullets.

The preliminary investigation suggests the location of the shooting was near James Street and Beardsley Avenue. There is currently no available suspect information.

If any resident in the area of N James Street and W Beardsley Avenue has exterior home surveillance camera systems, please contact the police department. It is believed video footage from Sunday evening and into Monday morning may be of investigative assistance.

Champaign Police are processing evidence and actively working to identify the circumstances leading up to the incident. While the investigation remains in its early stages, this is not believed to be a random act of violence.

Crime Stoppers will pay a reward of $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for this crime.
