Champaign Police Investigating Overnight Homicide

This morning, at approximately 4:40 a.m., Champaign Police responded to the 800 Block of Fairoaks Drive following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive 38-year-old male victim inside a private residence suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary investigation suggests an unknown subject, or subjects, forced entry into the residence and fired multiple rounds at the victim before fleeing the scene. There is no available suspect information currently.

If any resident in the nearby area has exterior home surveillance camera systems, please contact the police department. It is believed video footage between Jan. 23 at midnight and 6 a.m. this morning may be of investigative assistance.

Champaign Police are processing evidence and actively working to identify the circumstances leading up to the incident. While the investigation remains in its early stages, this is not believed to be a random act of violence.

Crime Stoppers will pay a reward of $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for this crime.
