The Champaign Fire Department responded to a working fire at 5 Sherwood Court, Friday, January 11, 2019, at 1:19 p.m. Fire crews quickly contained the fire to the living room of the home.
Firefighters responded to a passerby’s report of smoke coming from the home. Once on the scene, crews reported smoke coming from the eaves of the one-story home. Firefighters extended hose lines into the home and quickly extinguished the fire, containing it to the living room.
The cause of this fire is undetermined as investigators remain on the scene conducting their investigation. One occupant of the home has been displaced because of this fire. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported.
The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan. Smoke alarms can provide early notification when seconds count.
