City Manager Announces Human Resources Director Appointment

City Manager Dorothy Ann David announced today that Amanda Farthing, currently the City’s Assistant Human Resources Director, has been promoted to the position of Human Resources Director effective September 17, 2018.

Ms. Farthing has worked in Champaign’s Human Resources Department since 2006, when she joined the City as a Human Resources Intern.  She later served as a Human Resources Technician (2007) before being promoted to Human Resources Specialist (2008) then Assistant Human Resources Director (2014).  She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Alabama and a Master of Arts in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  Ms. Farthing is recognized as a Senior Certified Professional by the International Public Management Association for Human Resources.

“Amanda’s extensive background and experience as a human resources professional made her the best choice to serve as our next Human Resources Director,” said City Manager Dorothy Ann David. “During her 12 years with the City, Amanda has proven to be a smart, dedicated, and knowledgeable professional who successfully managed increasing levels of responsibility as she rose up through the ranks.  Amanda is a well-known, respected member of the City organization and I’m proud to promote her to the HR Director position.”

“It is an honor to continue to serve the City of Champaign as the new Human Resources Director,” said Amanda Farthing.  “I am so proud to be a part of this amazing organization and I look forward to working with the City Council, City Manager, and staff to make Champaign an even better place to live, work, and visit.”

Ms. Farthing was selected through a nationwide search following the resignation of former Human Resources Director Jason Hood in July 2018.  Ms. Farthing has served as Interim Human Resources Director since that time.  Her starting salary will be $132,000 per year.
