Update: Police Make Arrest in March 7 Homicide Investigation

Today, at approximately 12:05 PM, the United States Marshals Service arrested 39-year-old Cornelius Freeman of Champaign, Illinois in Mayfield, Kentucky in connection with the death of 26-year-old Micheal White of Chicago.  An arrest warrant was previously issued for Freeman on March 8, 2018 for the offense of First Degree Murder. Bond on the warrant was set at $1,000,000.

On the afternoon of March 7, 2018, officers responded to the 1300 block of Sunset Dr. in Champaign after reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, police located White with a life-threatening gunshot wound. White was immediately transported to an area hospital, where he would later succumb to his injuries.

Although an arrest has been made, the investigation into this incident is on-going and Police ask that anyone with information call the Champaign Police Investigations Division at 217-351- 4545. Detectives will arrange to speak privately with anyone with information.
