The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that nighttime closures
of the Neil Street and Cunningham Avenue off-ramps from Interstate 74 will begin July 12.
The closures are necessary for crews to perform skid-proofing operations. Work on I-74 will
begin at 9 p.m. July 12 on the westbound off-ramp at Neil Street and the eastbound offramp at
Cunningham Avenue and is expected to be finished by 6 a.m. July 13, weather permitting.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the
work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay
close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits,
refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
