Arrest Made in Recent Robbery Investigations

On April, 3, 2018, at approximately 3:00 PM, Champaign Police, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service, arrested 39-year-old Marcellus Ward of Rantoul, for the offense of Armed Robbery.

During the past week, multiple robberies occurred at local businesses within the Champaign-Urbana area, where a suspect entered the following locations and demanded money while displaying a weapon:

• March 29, 2018 armed robbery: United States Postal Service–202 S. Race, Urbana

• March 29, 2018 armed robbery: CVS Pharmacy–243 S. Mattis Ave., Champaign

• March 31, 2018 armed robbery: Woodforest National Bank–2610 N. Prospect Ave., Champaign

The investigation into these incidents led to the arrest of Marcellus Ward, believed to be responsible for all three robberies. Ward was arrested today without incident and transported to the Champaign County Correctional Center pending court proceedings.
