On Wednesday, March 7, at approximately 12:26 PM, Champaign Police responded to the 1300 block of Sunset Drive for a report of gunfire. Upon arrival, police located 26-year-old Micheal White of Chicago, who suffered a fatal gunshot wound. Continued police investigation into this incident has resulted in the identification of a suspect and issuance of an arrest warrant.
Police are seeking the public’s help to locate the 39-year-old suspect, Cornelius Freeman of Carbondale, for the offense of First Degree Murder. Freeman is described as a Black male, 5’07”, approximately 260 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Freeman has been known to intermittently reside in the Champaign area over recent years. Bond on the warrant is set at $1,000,000.
Champaign Police ask that anyone with information relating to this incident, or the whereabouts of Cornelius Freeman, to contact the Champaign Police Investigations Division at 217-351-4545.
