Champaign Code Review and Appeals Board Meeting Provides Opportunity for Feedback

On April 25, 2018, Building Safety Division staff and the Code Review and Appeals Board will assemble for the Board’s regularly scheduled April meeting at 4:30 pm in the Fire Station #1 basement level at 307 S. Randolph St., Champaign.  The meeting’s purpose is to provide an additional opportunity to engage design professionals, developers, contractors and homeowners in discussion regarding the recently adopted 2015 building codes package. After the initial code review and public input process, the 2015 codes became law in the City of Champaign on June 1, 2017. There has been ample time to implement the codes and experience the effect of the codes in both commercial and residential applications.

Building Safety Division and the Board would like to invite all interested citizens who may wish to question a code requirement to submit a code modification proposal for the Board’s consideration. The code modification proposal should identify the code section in question and contain a thorough explanation and rationale supporting a proposed change. Proposals will be evaluated based on a life-safety and a cost-benefit analysis.

Proposals should be emailed to [email protected] or submitted in writing to the Building Safety Division office (address listed above) no later than March 25, 2018. The Board will act on proposals of merit based upon the procedures listed in the Rules and Bylaws of the City of Champaign Code Review and Appeals Board. The Board will also be available to listen to any other verbal comments, concerns or suggestions.

Questions can be directed to Building Safety Supervisor Larry Happ at 217-403-6100 or [email protected].
