The Champaign Fire Department responded to a working fire at 1213 Crispus Drive, Monday, February 5, 2018, at 3:41 a.m. Upon arrival on the scene, fire crews found smoke coming from the roof of the single-family home. Suppression efforts began immediately.
Occupants were alerted to the fire by smoke alarms within the home and called 911. Firefighters arrived on the scene, assisted one occupant from the home, and deployed hose lines to quickly extinguish the fire. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported.
Investigators have determined this fire was accidental and caused by an electric failure in the attic of the single-family home. The occupants will be displaced because of this fire.
The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan. Smoke alarms can provide early notification when seconds count.
