Learn the answer to these questions and more in the Champaign City Government 101 Academy! In addition to learning about the organization and operation of the City of Champaign, the class will help boost your civic engagement capacity and encourage you to become an active participant in your local government and the community.
What Will I Learn?
The Academy consist of 12 classes. Each class will introduce you to a new City department, including: City Council/City Manager’s Office, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technologies, Legal, Planning and Development, Public Works, Neighborhood Services METCAD 9-1-1, Police, Fire, and Library. After attending the Academy, participants will have a better understanding of the intricacies of operating a municipal government and what it takes to support Champaign’s high quality, essential public services.
When is the Academy?
Classes will meet on Mondays and Thursdays in the fall of 2018. A complete class schedule will be posted once registration for the 2018 Academy opens.
What is the Cost?
The Champaign City Government 101 Academy is free and open to Champaign residents 16 and older.

Contact the Neighborhood Services Department to be added to the 2018 Academy interest list. You will be contacted when registration for the 2018 Academy opens.
