The 4th Annual Welcome Awards was held on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at the Muslim American Society Center in Urbana. The award ceremony provided an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of local immigrants, while also celebrating international humanitarian relief and human rights advocacy provided through efforts of Champaign and Urbana residents. Mayor Feinen and Council Member Beck read the Welcoming Week joint proclamation and the visiting Haitian Delegation was presented with a key to the City of Champaign. Guests enjoyed entertainment provided by Capoeira Angola Center, children’s activities sponsored through the Urbana Free Library, and a variety of refreshments. This was the first year the Cities of Champaign and Urbana joined with the CU Immigration Forum to put on this event.
