Last night, at approximately 10:36 PM, Champaign Police responded to the “0-100” Block of E. John St. following report that an individual had fallen from an apartment balcony.

Upon arrival to the scene, the individual, who was later identified as 23-year-old University of Illinois student Jonathan Morales, was found unresponsive.  Police immediately provided emergency care until medical personnel arrived.  Morales was then transported to Carle Foundation Hospital, where at 11:50 PM he was pronounced deceased by hospital personnel.

Morales, who is from Franklin Park, IL, resided in Champaign and was a Communication Major at the University of Illinois.

Limited information is available at this time; however, preliminary investigations suggest that Morales’ fall was accidental.  Champaign Police Detectives and the Champaign County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate this case.  An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted later today.
