Residential Fire – 908 W. Clark Street

The Champaign Fire Department responded to a working fire at 908 W. Clark Street, Friday, February 24, 2017, at 5:03 a.m. Upon arrival on the scene, fire crews reported smoke and fire coming from the first and second floors at the rear of the residence.  Suppression and rescue efforts began immediately.

Emergency responders from the Champaign and Urbana Fire Departments and Arrow Ambulance responded to this two-alarm fire.  The fire was reported by a passerby in the neighborhood saying they smelled smoke.  Once on scene, fire crews entered and encountered heavy fire on both floors of this two-story residence.  Fire crews had the fire out at 6:57 a.m.  The home sustained heavy fire damage.  Urbana Fire Department’s Technical Rescue Team is currently on scene reinforcing the structure so that investigators can enter and begin their examination.  Investigators are attempting to account for any occupants at this time.  The total damage estimate is unavailable.  No reports of injuries to fire department personnel or civilians have been reported.

The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan.  Smoke alarms can provide early notification when seconds count.
