The City of Champaign is pleased to announce a redesign of the City’s main website is underway which will enhance the public’s access to information and online services, while also improving the functionality of the site on mobile phones and tablets. The redesign features a clean, modern design, improved navigation, increased content, and implementation of a responsive web design which changes the webpage layout to fit the device the website is being viewed on.
“Nearly 56% of people visiting the City’s website are doing so on a mobile device, and we expect that number will continue to increase,” said Communications Manager Jeff Hamilton. “So we’ve been working to redesign our website so our residents and visitors can more easily use our site on any type of phone or mobile device.”
The City is systematically updating each section of the website, which started with the homepage and was followed by the new Business Portal, the City Manager’s Office, and the Finance Department pages. All the remaining sections of the City’s website are actively being developed and will be updated over the next several months.
In addition to improving the look and functionality of the website, the City recently changed its website address to champaignil.gov. The old website address (ci.champaign.il.us) will continue to work for another year or two, giving the City ample time to update City letterhead, business cards, and brochures as current stock is used up and replacement supplies are ordered.
Hamilton added, “Since we were already redesigning the website, we knew this was also the right time to simplify our website address. Our new address is not only shorter, but it is easier to say and easier for people to remember.”
