The Champaign Fire Department received two grants for additional equipment. Marathon Petroleum Company awarded the department $5,000 through their First Responders Grant and Illinois American Water awarded the department $700 through a Safety Grant.
The Fire Department recently purchased upgraded firefighting foam equipment to improve its ability to deliver foam fire suppression agent. The Marathon Petroleum Company grant will be utilized to fabricate new equipment storage for the department’s foam response trailer to protect the new equipment while responding to emergencies.
The Illinois American Water grant will be utilized to upgrade the department’s chlorine leak response kit. The improved design of the kit will allow for quicker deployment and subsequently less product to be released during an emergency.
