On March 17, Environmental Inspector Kim Burnett received an email from City of Champaign Forestry Supervisor Andrew Lamoreux regarding a tree blocking passage on a sidewalk at 212 W. Charles. Burnett investigated and observed the tree was prohibiting clear passage for pedestrians on the sidewalk. The Municipal Code requires trees to have an 8-foot clearance above a public sidewalk and cannot diminish the width of the walk. In this case the tree trunk did both. A Notice was issued to owner. Throughout the months of March and April, Burnett held conversations with the property owner regarding this Code violation. On May 9, the property owner called to inform Burnett the tree had been removed. Burnett confirmed the owner abatement and was able to close the case.
