Arrest Made in April 13 Shooting Incident on Hedge Road

On April 13, 2016, Champaign Police responded to the 1600 Block of Hedge Road after receiving numerous reports of shots fired.  While on scene, Police located a significant number of shell casings and were notified that a gunshot victim had arrived at a local hospital.

On April 14, an arrest warrant was issued for 30-year-old Kenneth B. Williams of Champaign in connection with this investigation, for the offense of Armed Habitual Criminal, a Class X felony. Bond on the warrant was set at $1,000,000.

Earlier today, Champaign Police Detectives, officers from the multi-jurisdictional Street Crimes Task Force and members of the United States Marshals Service Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force observed Williams in the 500 block of N. McKinley Ave.  A foot pursuit ensued and Williams was taken into custody moments later without incident. At the time of his arrest, Williams was found to be wearing a ballistic “bulletproof” vest and a handgun was recovered from Williams’ flight path as he ran from police.

Additionally, a search of a parked vehicle in the immediate area resulted in the recovery of a rifle.
