2016 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan

All citizens of Champaign are invited to join City staff for an open discussion regarding the 2016 update to the City’s ADA Transition Plan.  A public open house will take place May 9 from 3-5 pm in Robeson Room A at the Champaign Public Library.  The open house will give everyone an opportunity to learn more about the requirements of Title II of the ADA (access to City programs and services), as well as the details of a transition plan.

The City has a long-standing commitment to improving accessibility for individuals with disabilities.  Due to 2010 ADA regulation changes, and in an effort to assure continued compliance, the City re-assessed all of its facilities and public rights-of-way as well as its current practices, policies, and procedures.  As we did in 1992 when the City adopted its original ADA Compliance Plan, and again in 2013 when the City hosted two open houses regarding the update, we are again requesting input from key stakeholders such as individuals with disabilities, as well as organizations within the City that represent individuals with disabilities.  We recognize the importance of public input with regards to a project of this scope and we request any contribution that the citizens of Champaign might have regarding accessibility throughout the City.
