The City of Champaign was a proud sponsor of the Land Connection Farmer’s Market debut season last summer. The market was held downtown on Tuesday evenings from May to October and provided those living or working downtown with easy access to fresh local produce, crafts, prepared foods, and many other items.
The Land Connection operates a matching fund sponsored by local businesses to benefit SNAP recipients. Participants swipe their cards in exchange for tokens to spend at the market. With the matching fund, the market doubles their tokens. Last year the market averaged 750 visitors per week, provided $1,000 in SNAP matching funds, and had 17 vendors each week. The City looks forward to another great year as the Farmer’s Market returns later this spring.
