Residential Fire – 312 W Maple Street

The Champaign Fire Department responded to a working fire at 312 W Maple Street, Monday, January 11, 2016, at 6:26 p.m. Upon arrival on the scene, fire crews reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the 2nd floor and attic area of the residence.  Suppression efforts began immediately.  Crews worked to extinguish the fire.

Twelve (12) pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately twenty-six (26) emergency response personnel responded to the call from Champaign Fire and Arrow Ambulance. Lieutenant Tyler Funk was the commanding officer of this incident. The fire was brought under control at 7:53 p.m. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported.  The Champaign Police Department provided traffic control, and Champaign Public Works provided barricades and salt for the road surfaces.  Total damage is estimated at $125,000 structure and contents.  The origin and cause is currently undetermined as the fire investigation continues.

The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan.
