Residential Fire – 1416 Winding Lane

The Champaign Fire Department responded to a working fire at 1416 Winding Lane, Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at 2:13 a.m. Upon arrival on the scene, fire crews reported smoke visible, coming from the front door. Rescue operations began immediately. Once rescue operations were complete, crews quickly extinguished the fire.

Eleven pieces of Fire/Rescue/EMS equipment and approximately 28 emergency response personnel responded to the call from Champaign Fire and Pro Ambulance. Captain Glen Daniels was the commanding officer of this incident. The fire was brought under control at 2:25 a.m. There were no firefighter injuries. One civilian was injured and transported from the scene for treatment at a local hospital. Emergency Services Support Team (ESST) provided support for the family and the Champaign Police Department provided traffic control at the scene. Total damage is estimated at $25,000 structure and contents. The origin and cause is currently undetermined as the fire investigation continues.

The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan.
