A suspect was arrested today in connection with two incidents involving pedestrians being struck by blow darts in the University of Illinois campus area on August 20, 2013.
An anonymous tip led Champaign police detectives to Todd Farthing, 19, of Champaign. Farthing was located at Parkland College and later arrested at the Champaign Police Department after being interviewed by detectives. Farthing was arrested for Reckless Conduct, a misdemeanor, for the following incidents:
The first incident occurred at 8:25 PM, in the 400 block of E. John Street. A 20-year-old female reported walking in the crosswalk, on the east side of Fourth Street and crossing John Street when she was struck by a blow dart in the left forearm. She received treatment for her injury at a local hospital.
The second incident occurred at 10:00 PM, in the 300 Block of S. First Street. A 35-year-old male reported to police that he was struck by a blow dart in the left forearm. He reported walking eastbound on the north side of Springfield Avenue and crossing First Street when he was injured. The victim indicated he immediately pulled the dart out of his arm and sought medical treatment at a local hospital.
