On Thursday, August 22, 2013, at approximately 10 a.m., the South Fourth Street Extension from Saint Mary’s Road to Windsor Road will be opened to traffic. In addition, the new traffic signal at the intersection of Windsor Road and the South Fourth Street extension will be operational.
The South Fourth Street Extension Project includes the construction of Fourth Street, Hazelwood Drive, and Gerty Drive within the University of Illinois’ South Research Park. It also includes street lighting along the new Fourth Street and a traffic signal at the intersection of the new street with Windsor Road. The overall project completion date for the project is September 6, 2013.
The Illinois Jobs Now funding for the $5 million project was secured by the University through the State of Illinois to construct infrastructure to support the further development of the research park. The new infrastructure will also benefit the general public by providing another option for access to the campus area when traveling from the south.
